Wendell O. Lee Scholarship Fund

The Wendell O. Lee scholarship fund was established in 1998 by Newbury Park PONY Baseball as the result of a generous gift from the Estate of Wendell O. Lee.  The purpose of the fund is to pay NPPB registration fees, and to provide basic baseball equipment, to local youths who would not otherwise be able to play organized baseball due to financial pressures.

The fund is named after the late Wendell O. Lee, who was active in local youth sports.  Mr. Lee was born in Lanesboro, Minnesota, and was raised in Minneapolis.  He developed his athletic interests as a high school gymnast and swimmer.  He served as a lifeguard on the city lake beaches of Minneapolis.  He was an avid hunter of deer, pheasant and duck.  He married Lois Elaine Tongen in 1949 and together they raised four children.  The family moved to Newbury Park in 1966 and he got involved with Newbury Park PONY Baseball when his son started T-ball in the early 1970s.  Mr. Lee served as equipment manager for Newbury Park PONY Baseball.  He coached T-ball teams and also served as a manager for boys Bruins football.  Mr. Lee believed that sports taught the efficiency of teamwork and at its best taught young boys self-respect and self-control.

The Wendell O. Lee scholarship fund is a permanent fund.  If you wish to donate to this fund, contributions should be sent to:

Newbury Park PONY Baseball
P.O. Box 21
Newbury Park, CA  91319

Checks should be made payable to "NPPB" and designated for the Wendell O. Lee scholarship fund.

Individuals seeking a NPPB baseball scholarship from this fund should address a letter to the league president outlining their financial needs.

The Board of Directors is grateful to the Estate of Wendell O. Lee for their generous contribution and for the incentive to start this permanent scholarship fund.  We are especially pleased to have a fund that enables us to assist local youth who would not otherwise be able to play organized baseball.  We are also pleased to be able to honor a local resident, Mr. Wendell O. Lee, who donated his time and effort to further youth sports!
